Tea Obsessed

I ordered so of DavidsTEA after seeing A Beautiful Mess's post, and it is absolutely amazing. Their teas have such beautiful aromas and the flavor isn't overpowering. I also got one of their mugs and it is perfect.

If you are a green tea lover you have to try Merry Cranberry. It has a wonderful christmas aroma to it. Mother's Little Helper is a relaxing chamomile tea with a hint of peppermint. So, if you are a tea drinking, you should try some DAVIDsTEA.

SENIOR EXHIBITION

It feels so amazing to have everything done. I have a total of 18 pieces in the show: 14 photographs and 4 photos. I am so happy with how everything turned out.

           "Guardian"                                        "Protector"
Sadly, the bear mask was stolen.

        "Leader"                                       "Shapeshifter"

Artist Statement:

Growing up, animals were part of my everyday life. I rode horses, cared
for cats and dogs, and even had a pet rat named Bergy. I was always getting
distracted playing with geckos, garden snakes, and toads. Always comfortable
with earth’s creatures, they became my friends. From ten to eighteen years of
age, I experienced a traditional Native American sweat lodge on eight separate
occasions. During the spiritual event we chanted, sang, and howled to our
animal guardians.
Relative to this indigenous experience, I recently read Animal Speak,
by Ted Andrews. The book reveals insights into how to recognize the spiritual
essence of an animal through its behavior. A power animal is the representation
of a person’s spirit. When reading about a lioness’ predatory nature and their
ability to cooperate with each other, I began identifying with this feline.
Kiki Smith reveals an instinctual bond between mammals. For
example, “Born”, is the sculpture of a female deer giving birth to a fully mature
woman. Like Smith, my work characterizes a feral relationship between a human
and an animal.
In the photograph, “Independent”, my mother’s portrait merges with the
painterly strokes of acrylic that suggest her spirit, the bald eagle. The plaster
sculpture, “Protector”, is a dialogue between my boyfriend and the brown bear.
Close up, the individual uniqueness of the suspended pair of facemasks are
revealed; viewed from a distance, the mask and life cast blend and unite into one
visual component. Each pairing is a personalized narrative description of my
loved ones and their power animals.

How About a Little Paint

Originally my masks were going to be a bronze color, but my professor gave me the idea to paint them with more of the animals realistic colors. I love the idea, so I have been painting away the last few days.
29 Days!!!
I can't wait for the show! I'm getting really excited now!!!

The Count Down

I have been neglecting my blog the last few weeks. Not on purpose; I have just been focused on my show. I can't wait to put images up of my work, but that will have to wait till after December 7th. My Senior Exhibition will be up in 32 days. It is unreal. I have also been applying for internships in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. I hope I get one, fingers crossed.
Well for the next 4 weeks, I'll be telling myself this everyday:

I hope everyone had a wonderful Monday & congratulations to my dear friend Courtney, she is mommy now!

Spaces: My Studio Space

I thought I would share some images from my studio space on campus. The work you see is my masks I'm working on for my senior show.  And the last image shows mine and Daniel's life casts. I am going to miss having this space once I graduate.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Spaces: My Safe Place

So, I realized that I haven't really talked about my move. In September, we moved to a new house only two streets over from our old house, but it is still a huge improvement. The old house was nice, but it was built in the 70s and didn't receive much maintenance. Plus, it seemed to collect dirt by the buckets. The new house we are renting was recently renovated; the down side to that is it doesn't allow pets (which is why Sage is with step dad). Living with all guys has it's up and downs, but mostly I enjoy it. It is a relaxed environment and even though they're a little messy, I'm okay with doing a few dishes. Most of the house looks like a typical guys place, so I've tried to make my room my safe place. I do share a room with my boyfriend, and we have lived together long enough that our  styles have combined. Anyways, I thought I would share some images of my safe place.

Where is your safe place?

Remember To Breath

Remembering to breath is sometimes easy to forget. Usually I am in the studio most of the day, and at the end of the day I need to cool down, chill, and breath. One of the reasons I love blogging is it allows me to express myself. I am not, in any way, an extreme blogger. I do it mainly for myself, and for those of you who do read my blog, I am very thankful.

Now, hopping to the complete opposite side of the pond; this song has been stuck in my head all day. Falling in Reverse is my little sister's favorite band and she had me listen to them this weekend. So, I thought I would share with you. It's catchy... it might get stuck in your head too.

Currently...

Feeling Motivated by this... "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." Wow, talk about truth. This definitely applies to a few aspects of my life right now, but for now I can only focus on one. My art.

Wanting to make one of these... Right now, all my jewelry is hanging from tacks and are a little tangled. This would be a simple and feasible way to organize my jewelry.

Loving the myfitnesspal app. This semester I have started a journey of learning and working towards good health (which I will be posting about more soon). This app is great for tracking calories and exercise.

Wishing for this... I have been looking at open knit cardigans & fell in love with this one from Chic Wish.

Contemplating getting a red ombre...

& of course...
Working on my artwork. This is a picture I took of my brother this weekend with my Holga Lens.

Hipstomatic Love

Laura, from Roots & Feathers, recently posted about Hipstamatic's new multiple exposure app, and I just had to try it out. It is so much fun; plus, my siblings loved it. Usually they hate getting their pictures taken, but they thought the multiple exposure was "the coolest thing ever".

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Inspiration: From Cecil Beaton

On of the photographers we studied in London was Cecil Beaton, so this quote spoke to me even more.  There is so much art in the world, and everything has been done. So, make your art YOUR ART. People think because I am an artist, my ideas come to me easily. They could not me more wrong. I revise my art like novelists revise there books. It all starts with one idea; the trick is being daring and show yourself in your work.

Obsessing over this freaking gorgeous ring from Spell & the Gypsy Collective. I have been looking at there website for months now, but I don't have the funds right now. Hopefully, I can save my money and get it after I graduate. A gift for myself. <---- Great Idea!!!

Thinking about seeing Sage this weekend. I miss her so much; it has been two weeks since I have seen her. It is still so strange being in a house without her, but I will only be in "the Falls" for two more months.

Listening to Grouplove. Daniel told me about this band, because one of their songs is on Fifa 12. The game always has great music.
