Busy Week + Brother's Birthday

This is going to be one crazy week. I have all my portfolios due in drawing, sculpture, and photography, so I may not have time to post this week. Also, don't forget to come out to the gallery opening this Friday at 6pm. It's going to be so fun and can't wait to see you!

Today is my baby brother's birthday!!! He is 11 years old. If you follow my blog you know that my twin brother and sister just had their birthday in April, and I still can't get over how big they all are getting. My baby brother, Chance, is one of the most artistic kids I have ever met. I absolutely love that we have this connection. One of my favorite doodles he did when he was little I have on my old sketch book. It is of his dream house for the family.

I feel so lucky to have such amazing siblings that love me, care for me, and even challenge me. And I am so thankful for Chance; he may be one hard-headed little kid, but he is the sweetest, funniest and most caring little brother too.
I love you Chance and happy birthday!!!

Lazy Day

So today has been one of those days where I should be doing working on my art but I have just vegged and read all day. One reason being, I am frustrated with one of my drawings and just keep going back to it.

I worked on it today and was not to happy with the result. So if I have time I'm going to go back and wipe out a whole area, so I can add needed contrast. I am way over thinking this drawing. :/

Inspiration: Book Art

I absolutely love the idea of using books as a material in making visual art.  Guy Laramee carves landscapes out of stacks of books. Some of his work is above and you should definitely go to his website (by clicking his name) to look at more of his work.
Another artist who uses books as the main material in her artwork is Su Blackwell. She uses the book pages to create a scene come alive from the book. Some images of her artwork is below, and you can click on her name to go to here website and see all her gorgeous work.

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend.

Student Show May 4th!

All my pieces made it into the student show!!!

I am super excited and everyone should come out to the gallery opening Friday, May 4th from 6pm to 8pm. The Student Show is always my favorite gallery opening of the year because we get to celebrate all our hard work. It is also my friend's Senior Exhibition, so you should come check it out next Friday!

Weekend Home!

I had such an amazing weekend.
#1 I got to see my mom; she is my best friend and I was having major withdraws. I got to see my brothers and sisters, which I still can't believe how fast they are growing up.
&
#2 I went to EDGEFEST 22!!! It was amazing, and I couldn't have gone with more amazing friends. We are still talking about what a blast it was!!!

Did I mention I made the most amazing cookie EVER!!! Well, I did!

In other news; this week has been and will continue to be filled with art. Next week all my drawings are due and I also have to finish 2 sculptures. Ekk. Hopefully the pressure will get my creative juices flowing and I will get everything done on time. <--- Really there isn't an option.
Today I entered 2 sculptures and 2 drawings into the student show so I really hope they make. Fingers Crossed.

Well I hope everyone is having a great week so far!
Here a song that I just can't get out of my head since Edgefest & I love it!!!

Drawing #6

I'm now on drawing #6. It still needs a lot of work, but I absolutely love the colors and contrast in this piece. Obviously, this is not really junk food; it's a can of green tea and sparkling water, but it could be someones junk food.
I'm actually going home this weekend (first time since Christmas) and I am so excited. Hopefully I will be able to work on it a little bit, but I wont count on it. :)

Here's The Mail It Never Fails...

Oh yes, my post title is from a Blue's Clues song, but I just love it when I get mail.
Today when I got home from class I had a letter in the mail from one of my amazing friends, Caitlin. She is going to be starting a blog soon and I can't wait. She is also my book buddy; we are always finding new books to read. Recently she told me about a book, Switched, and I am hooked. I started reading it last night and can't put it down. It is a trilogy, so if you looking for a good book I definitely suggest Switched by Amanda Hocking. Plus you can get it on your nook too!!!

Plus, I got information from my dream graduate school. I'm so excited!

Hope everyone had a beautiful day!

My Goal

Sometimes I find myself being very introverted; I love having time to myself, but maybe I have had a little to much lately. It is almost the end of the semester and most college students are saying that they will be studying the rest of the semester, but my goal for the rest of the semester is to work on my relationships with my friends. Being with my friends, even if we haven't seen each other in a while, makes me feel alive and full of energy. And truly it is one of the best feelings in the world.

& Today is Odin's Birthday!!! He is such a handsome boy and a little bit crazy, but I still love him!
Hope everyone had a great Tuesday!

Just a Little List

So this week isn't going to be to crazy; I just have a few things to do. I have to finish my drawing, start working on my steel sculpture, do some more portraits and finish my government paper. I also starting working on another drawing today in class.

I can't believe there are only three weeks left in this semester; it has just flown by, but I'm not complaining. It just means that is closer to my trip to London. Oh yea, that's right... LONDON!!! I am going through the study abroad program at my school and taking a photography class; I am so excited!
What do you have coming up that you are really excited about?

Tattoo Tuesday Idea

I finally was able to do some portraits of one of my dear friends, also I thought of a cool idea. I absolutely love Tiffany from Drops of Jupiter, and every week she does a Tattoo Tuesday post. So my idea is to do photos of tattoo Tuesday in the office, like casual Fridays. Hopefully I will be able to play around with this idea; I think it would be really fun!
Also, I just wanted to let everyone one know that you can comment on my posts and you don't have to have a account to be able to. So comment away!!!

I can't believe that 13 years ago today my brother and sister were born. Life goes by so fast, sometimes it's hard to keep up. The last few years I have not been able to see them as much as I would like because I am at school, but they are so much of who I am today. I am so thankful to have them in my life and I love them so much! Happy birthday Graham & Landry!

Inspiration: Cal Lane

I thought I had an idea of what I was going to do for my steel sculpture, but now I am not so sure. I do find myself changing my mind multiple times before I actually decide what to do. Really it's a problem; I mean no matter what kind of project I over think it. So usually I am off to a slow start.
Today when I was doing more research on different artists, I found Cal Lane. She basically turns steel to lace.

Behind...

Okay, It's official. I am WAY behind.
I should be done with my 7th drawing this week, but I am only on my 5th. EEK!!!
Not to mention I really need to get going on my photography. That being said, if anyone wants to be a model for me that would be amazing!!!

It is also time for me to start my steel project for sculpture. I recently finished my wood sculpture, which I will put pictures up later.
For the steel sculpture we are supposed to look at other artists' work for inspiration. Martha Walker's work really caught my eye.
I really love these two pieces, "Up in Smoke" on the left & "Hope" on the right. Not only are they beautiful and organic, I also love the shadow that is casts; they add a entire different way to view the piece.
You can look at more of her artwork here.

Time for some Rearranging

Sometimes I get bored with the way my room looks. If I wasn't a college student and had money I would be one of those people who redecorates every season. Since I can't afford that, I love rearranging to make it feel like a fresh, new space.

It is so refreshing to have a new setup! I love it & Sage does too!!!
Have a good Monday!

New Little Friend

When I was a little girl I loved catching caterpillars from the garden and watching them grow into beautiful butterflies! So I was more then a little excited when I found this little guy on the floor of my house. It is so fun to watch them grow and change into such beauties, and its great to do with your kids too.
All you need is glass jar, a caterpillar, twigs, leaves, and a piece of paper towel to put on the bottom to absorb the moister.  Also be sure to change the leaves every day so they stay fresh.
Before you know it your little caterpillar will turn into a chrysalis, and 10 to 14 days later the transformation will be complete; your butterfly will emerge from the cocoon and it is time to release it into the wild.
I can't wait!!!

Monday Madness

Today was a interesting day; mostly I've been busy working on my sculpture and drawings. Working on my drawings at home is how I get most my work done. I love having all my candles lit around the room and having Smokey as company, even if she gives me evil looks.

Happy Sunday!

Well, I didn't get quite as much done is weekend as I was hoping. I was able to find all six kittens loving new homes, but mostly I worked. I am defiantly not getting any drawing tonight, because my programs are on! Not only is it the season finale of Californiacation and Shameless; it's the season premiere of Game of Thrones!!!

We re watched the first season this week, and it just made me even more excited for this season to start. I totally love Emilia Clarke; she does an amazing job, and I'm glad her hair didn't get burned off like it did in the book.
